About Cathy Miller

imageLike many people, my background is filled with a seemingly mysterious collection of education, careers, and hobbies. My Bachelor's degree in music education and Master's degree in french horn performance led me to my first career as a professional musician and music educator with the United States Army Field Band in Washington, DC. Not long after my daughter was born I changed my focus to become the Principal Music Librarian for that organization, and retired from the military in 2006. Somewhere in there I became a graphic designer, began a second Master's degree in clinical psychology, raised my kids, and took up portrait painting.

My calling to the healing arts profession happened, as is does for many people, through my own healing journey. I am very grateful for the excellent medical care I received for breast cancer, however, the real "healing" happened for me as I received Process Acupressure from a loving and supportive practitioner throughout my medical treatment process. This changed the course of my life, as I now see that it does for many people, and I have been passionately following the healing path ever since. What once seemed like a curious hodge-podge of skills and interests has become a rich collection of tools and experience that assist me and my clients every day in the journey toward wholeness.

After training in Shiatsu and Asian Bodywork Therapy at the Baltimore School of Massage, and attending a rigorous series of additional courses in Clinical Acupressure and Process Acupressure I am now a Diplomate of Asian Bodywork Therapy from the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). I'm also a certified practitioner of Clinical Acupressure and Process Acupressure and the director of Clinical Acupressure Training for the educational non-profit Soul Lightening International.

In addition to a busy teaching schedule, I have served as an affiliated practitioner at the Tai Sophia Institute in Laurel, Maryland, and at the Center for Integrative Medicine in Easton, Maryland. My private practice is currently at Crossings: a center for the healing traditions in Silver Spring, Maryland. I also serve as the lead acupressure practitioner and trainer for Healingworks, a non-profit organization responsible for creating the Restore and Renew Wellness Clinic at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
